WHO: DMACC President Rob Denson has invited Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, Iowa Workforce Development Executive Director Beth Townsend, Polk County Supervisor Steve Van Oort, DMACC alumnus Dennis Albaugh and Iowa trucking industry officials, among others, to join him for an official groundbreaking for a new, $9 million DMACC Transportation Institute on Des Moines’ north side.
WHAT: With support from a $1 million state grant, a $1 million donation from a DMACC alum and contributions from additional donors, the new 8,600-square-foot DMACC Transportation Institute will double the program’s current student capacity and result in a significant increase in enrollment. The three-phase project starts this month (Nov. 2023) and will include a new building and attached three-story garage; new concrete training pad; and demolition of the old Transportation Institute building. The project will be completed in 2025.
WHEN: 12 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2023
WHERE: DMACC Transportation Institute
2081 NE 54th Avenue
Des Moines, IA 50313
Event will take place in the Northeast corner of property, next to the new building site.
WHY: The current DMACC Transportation Institute, which opened in 1988, is aging and is currently at full capacity. The 12-acre concrete pad that DMACC trucking students use for training is also deteriorating and has been closed due to some broken concrete areas.
