Des Moines, Iowa – Central Iowans voted, and this year have decided DMACC is the Best Community College in Iowa.

Every year, CityView (Central Iowa’s Independent Newspaper), sends a poll to its readers with 271 different categories to vote for the best places to eat, drink, shop and visit in Central Iowa — “not to mention to get your teeth cleaned, your mind sharp, your roof fixed and so much more,” reporter Cyote Williams wrote. Nearly 14,500 local readers participated in the Best of 2025 vote, according to the online publication's announcement.

CityView congratulated DMACC for the recognition, highlighting the more than 220 programs, certificates, and transfer degrees at the 13 campuses and learning centers spread across the Des Moines metro and Central Iowa for “providing students a great alternative to a state or private university.”

DMACC has won CityView’s award for six years in a row (in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and now, 2025) beating runners-up Kirkwood Community College and Indian Hills Community College. In those previous years, DMACC was commended for offering affordable college tuition without sacrificing a quality education, and for the fact that 98% of graduates find employment or choose to continue their education after attending.

"With DMACC’s enrollment growth and new in-person and online offerings, it’s no surprise that DMACC received this accolade again this year,” said President Rob Denson. “Our thanks go to all those who voted for DMACC and to CityView for hosting this annual survey.”

Before the publication offered the “Best Community College” award, DMACC also won first place awards for “Best Local Place for Continuing Your Education" in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
