Fitness/Exercise Management Program Details

The DMACC Fitness and Sports Management program is designed for individuals who would like to pursue a career in the fitness, sports, recreation or health fields.

Choose your path by earning an Associate degree in Fitness/Exercise Management, start your training at DMACC and transfer to ISU, Iowa, or Drake, or earn a specialized training certificate in Coaching or Fitness Specialist.

ISU Transfer Planning Guide for DMACC

Iowa State University ​partners with DMACC to develop transfer plans for students interested in careers in fitness and health promotion and wish to start their education at a community college. You can plan ahead and be sure of graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in four years.

We will work with you from the beginning of your program until you graduate from Iowa State. The academic staff at both institutions will help you in planning the appropriate course sequence and to explore your career interests in fitness and health promotion through volunteer and/or field experiences, student clubs and other networking opportunities.

Students can take DMACC classes at both Ankeny and Boone Campuses.  Classes start Fall, Spring and Summer Terms.

Through an agreement with the University of Iowa, students from DMACC can transfer seamlessly and earn their B.S. degree in Sports & Recreation Management.

The University of Iowa’s program has internships in Des Moines with sports teams, facilities, park/recreation departments, and wellness institutes as well as the flexibility to take some classes in Iowa City or Des Moines.

We will work with you from the beginning of your program until you graduate from the University of Iowa. The academic staff at both institutions will help you in planning the appropriate course sequence and to explore your career interests in fitness and health promotion through volunteer and/or field experiences, student clubs and other networking opportunities.

DMACC is partnering with Drake University for those wishing to become an Athletic Trainer. Earn a DMACC AS degree in Fitness and Sports Management that transfers to Drake to earn Bachelors in Health Science, and a Masters of Athletic Training (MAT). This accelerated program is defined as a 2+1+2.

This partnership provides a lot of unique opportunities with extensive Drake science facilities and individualized clinical experiences in a variety of sports environments.  Drake has partnered​ with a vast assortment of exercise science and sports sites and experiences throughout the state.

We will work with you from the beginning of your program until you graduate from Drake. The academic staff at both institutions will help you in planning the appropriate course sequence and to explore your career interests in health sciences and athletic training. With this extensive program, it's best to meet with an advisor and ​start planning right away. 

Students can take DMACC classes at both Ankeny and Boone Campuses.  Classes start Fall, Spring and Summer Terms.
