These events allow high school students, parents and educators to explore a career pathway by attending hands-on activity sessions and demonstrations. Connect to future careers, meet with professionals and learn about DMACC programs! Transportation is the student’s responsibility.

Discover Healthcare Day – Polk County Healthcare Workforce Collaborative

Date: Thursday, September 19, 2024

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Description: This event is for 9-12th grade students interested in exploring future educational and career opportunities in health care. There are many different types of careers in the healthcare industry, both patient and non-patient facing that make up an organization. From the nurse who helps care for patients, to the imaging staff, to the paramedics and EMTs who take care of patients pre-hospital and through transfers. You will explore different opportunities in healthcare from a clinical side through conversations and activities with over 12 different departments through Broadlawns, MercyOne, UnityPoint healthcare professionals. In addition, you’ll learn about educational opportunities in these fields from DMACC, Des Moines University, Grand View, and Mercy College.

Electrical, Renewable, Electronics, and Robotics Exploration Day

Date: Friday, September 20, 2024

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Description: Spend the morning with DMACC learning about Electric Utility, Electrical Trades, Renewable Energy, Electronics Engineering and Robotics & Control Systems programs. Whether your interests are placing and climbing powerline poles across the countryside or wiring buildings; Maintaining electronic equipment in offices, hospitals, and factories or programming robots and automation - this is the event for you. You will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, talk with current college students and faculty. Pet a robotic dog and learn about solar and wind power and see what "sparks" your future!

Discover Auto/Diesel Day

Date: Friday, September 27, 2024

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Description: This event is for high school students interested in exploring future educational and career options in the following areas: Auto Collision Technology, Auto Mechanics Technology, Diesel Technology, Power Equipment Technology, and our Manufacturer Based Internship Programs (GM ASEP, Ford ASSET, Honda PACT, and MOPAR CAP), which allow students to have a paid work experience while earning their 2-year degree. Students will have the opportunity to attend 5 interactive sessions with faculty and employers.

*Participants are REQUIRED to wear closed-toed shoes and pants. Lunch will be provided.

**Please indicate guests attending with you on the registration form so we have accurate numbers for lunches.

Healthcare Career Day at Mary Greeley Medical Center

Date: Friday, November 1, 2024

Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Description: Come join us and experience hands on activities and tours with different departments at Mary Greeley in Ames! There are many different types of careers in the healthcare industry, both patient and non-patient facing that make up an organization. During this event, you will hear from employees about Mary Greeley, what they have to offer, and job opportunities for high school students. This event is designed for 10th-12th grade students interested in healthcare careers.

Please note:

  • Mary Greeley requires a “Participation and Media Release Form” to be signed by both the student and guardian. Once registered, the form will be sent to the email provided on the registration form. Please sign and email it back to jmhoeck@dmacc.edu or bring the signed form with you at check-in on November 1.
  • Closed-toe shoes are recommended.
  • Lunch will be provided!

Worksite Industry Tours

These events are hosted by a business and are open to 11th and 12th grade students. Students will meet with professionals to learn about the business and specific careers. Explore Business & Entrepreneurship at Real Deals Ankeny

  • Due to capacity constraints, registration is open to students only. Guests of students and educators may attend with students; however, they will not tour with the students. A space will be provided to wait while the event occurs if you are attending with a student.

Explore STEM and Manufacturing at Ramco Innovations

Date: Thursday, October 17, 2024

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Description: Explore the future of manufacturing and automation at Ramco Innovations. With over 60 years of experience, Ramco specializes in providing high-tech solutions to overcome complex automation challenges to enhance efficiency, safety, and productivity in modern manufacturing. During this visit, you’ll explore Robotics and Engineering seeing the collaborative robot (cobot) in action, get hands-on with manufacturing tools and techniques guided by our experts, and check-out innovative projects from Sukup Innovations and Synk. Sukup, an Iowa-based manufacturer of grain bins and innovative agricultural products, is dedicated to enhancing productivity, equipment lifespan, and grain quality through advanced technology. Synk provides on-site automation solutions for the agricultural industry. Join us to learn more about Ramco, and the exciting world of manufacturing and STEM careers! Lunch will be provided.

Explore the Justice System at the Polk County Courthouse

Date: Tuesday, December 3, 2024

Time: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Description: Visit the Polk County Courthouse and observe a trial in session. Students will also hear from professionals in a variety of legal fields including: District Court Judge, Judicial Specialists – Court Room Support, Court Specialists – Case Coordinators, Law Clerks and the Supervisor and Clerk from the Polk County Clerk’s Office. This is a great day for any students interested in Court Reporting, Paralegal, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or Pre-law/Law School.

These events host numerous business partners for students to connect with to gain a better understanding of their organization, positions hired, education and training needs, and what a day in the life looks like. Put yourself front and center as you connect with local employers to find a part-time opportunity or learn more about your dream job!

Several Career Fairs are offered through DMACC throughout the year, this fall’s career fairs are below. If you are looking to learn more about a particular career or are undecided on your major these are a great way to explore careers. Meet with many local employers! There's no cost – these events are free!
