Associate Professor, Nursing
Haylee graduated with her Associate's Degree in Nursing from the Carroll DMACC Campus
in 2010 and her Master's of Science in Nursing from Clarkson College in 2017. She
has nursing experience in critical care, orthopedics, and medical surgical care. She
resides in Manning with her husband and 2 daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys
cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Professor, Math/Academic Achievement Center
Marie joined DMACC in 2017 as a math/physics instructor and Academic Achievement Center
coordinator. Before DMACC, Marie taught high school math and physics for 12 years
at East Sac County in Lake View. While there she also coached a variety of sports--mainly
concentrating on track and cross country. Outside of work, Marie enjoys spending time
with her husband and 4 kids on their farm, running, and many outdoor activities.
Instructor, English
Cody joined DMACC in the Fall of2022 after teaching as an adjunct at several community
colleges and universities. He earned his BA in Criminology before earning his MA in
English at the University of Northern Iowa. Cody enjoys teaching a variety of courses,
including Composition, Literature, and Creative Writing. In his free time, he enjoys
writing fiction, reading, photography, hiking, and playing video games. He lives in
Boone with his fiancé, Michael, and their three cats.
Professor, Business Tech – Administrative Assistant & Medial Office Programs
Amy has a B.A in Elementary Education through the DMACC/UNI 2+2 Program (2003) and
an Instructional Technology M.A. from UNI (2014). She previously worked in the Human
Resources department at St. Anthony Regional Hospital. Amy enjoys spending time with
her family, especially her two children, reading, sports and canoeing the Raccoon
River when she has time.
Library - Media Specialist
Lisa Dreesman joined Des Moines Area Community College in August 2008 as the Library-Media
Specialist at the Carroll Campus. In addition to her librarian duties, she is also
an instructor, teaching SDV 115 Study Strategies and two classes in the teacher education
department, EDU 210 Foundations of Education and EDU 218 Initial Field Experience.
Lisa received her BA degree in History Education and her Master's Degree in Library
Science from the University of Northern Iowa. She has one son, Steven, a clinical
mental health counselor in Cedar Falls and a soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Megan, who
is an ICU registered nurse at Unity Point in Waterloo. Away from work, Lisa enjoys
traveling, reading, scrapbooking, and walking and snowshoeing for exercise.
Academic Advisor, Phi Theta Kappa and Honors Advisor
Many students at Des Moines Area Community College's Carroll Campus are getting a
guiding hand from Valerie Enenbach when deciding on coursework and their career path.
Val has been an academic advisor at the Carroll Campus since September, 2002.
Before joining DMACC's staff, Val was the Director of Aquatics and head men's and
women's swim coach at LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia. Prior to that, Val also
taught health and physical education classes and coached volleyball and softball at
Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Pam Hanlin
Administrative Assistant
Pam joined the staff at the Carroll Campus in December 2022 having previously worked
at the Carroll Recreation Center for several years. Pam received her AA from DMACC
and then earned her BA in psychology from BVU. She finds it rewarding to help students
and other coworkers. Pam lives in Carroll with her husband Ryan and son Grayson. She
enjoys spending time with her family, creating memories with her son, reading, and
loves football season!
Student Resource Specialist
Connie is the Student Resource Specialist at the Carroll Campus. She works with students
in the welding and CNA GAP programs (state funded education). Previously, she managed
the Carroll and Boone DMACC bookstores. Connie earned her Bachelor's Degree in Management
and Marketing through the DMACC and BVU 2 + 2 program. She enjoys spending time with
her family and friends, running, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and farm life.
Technology Specialist
Holly Hoffman, Technology Specialist, joined the Des Moines Area Community College
in 2013. She oversees technology equipment on campus and provides troubleshooting
and technical support to many students, staff, and faculty. She also administers a
variety of tests including CNA, HiSET, and TEAS. Outside of work, Holly enjoys spending
time with her family (husband, daughter, and stepson), reading, listening to music,
and cooking.
Instructor, Psychology
Maggie joined the faculty of Des Moines Area Community College in Carroll in the Fall
of 2022 after teaching as an adjunct at various other DMACC campuses since 2015. Maggie
has also been an adjunct instructor of psychology for Western Iowa Tech Community
College and Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. Maggie received her B.A. in psychology
with a minor in business from St. Mary's University of Minnesota. After working at
the University of Iowa studying parent-child relationships, she went on to receive
her M.A. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Maggie
and her husband live in Minburn with their two daughters. In her spare time, Maggie
enjoys crocheting, reading, and taking road trips across Iowa with her family.
Professor, Chemistry/Physics
Nadine Jessen joined the Des Moines Area Community College faculty in the fall of
2008 after teaching as an adjunct for the Carroll Campus since 2004. Prior to 2008,
Nadine taught high school science for fifteen years. She earned her BA and Master's
degrees from Buena Vista University. Nadine lives on a farm between Exira and Audubon
and enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
Savanna Judson
Instructor, Biology, Microbiology & Environmental Science
Savanna joined the Des Moines Area Community College faculty in January of 2023. She
is a full-time instructor of Biology, Microbiology, and Environmental Science. Savanna
received her Bachelor's in Environmental Science from Buena Vista University and graduated
with her Master's in Microbiology from Iowa State University. Prior to starting with
DMACC, she was an education specialist with a wildlife rehabilitation organization.
Outside of work, she loves listening to science podcasts, running marathons, hiking
in national parks, and trying new foods!
Nursing Instructor & Carroll Campus Nursing Chair
Collette received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dakota Wesleyan University
and graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing from Graceland University. She
has nursing experience in critical care, medical surgical, and emergency nursing.
She lives in Carroll with her husband and two children. In her spare time, she enjoys
traveling, reading, running, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
Professor, Work-based Learning
Julie joined the Des Moines Area Community College in January of 2017. She is a full-time
instructor for the Work-Based-Learning program. Julie did her undergraduate work at
the University of Iowa. She has been working in higher education since 2010 when she
joined the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Iowa. Prior to starting
with DMACC, she was an academic advisor for Buena Vista University at the Carroll
DMACC location. In her spare time, Julie enjoys being active, baking, photography,
and spending time with her family and friends.
Professor, Nursing
Amber is a native of Denison, Iowa. She is a RN with background experience in critical
care, cardiology, med/surg, ER, PACU, OB, and education. Amber graduated in 1996 from
the University of Iowa, College of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
degree. She completed the Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN) degree in 2010
from Clarkson College in Omaha. She is a wife and mother and lives in Denison with
her husband and three children. Amber enjoys traveling, golfing, scrapbooking, walking,
and gardening. She and her husband also restore old homes as a hobby.
Professor, Speech Communication
Maggie joined the faculty of Des Moines Area Community College in Carroll in 2017
after teaching as an adjunct for the Carroll Campus since 2015. Currently she is a
full-time instructor for speech/communication courses. Maggie earned a BA in Communication
Studies from Nebraska Wesleyan University and an MA from The University of Memphis
in Gender Communication Studies. In her spare time, Maggie enjoys going to the theater,
reading, photography, and spending time with her family.
Custodian
Marcus started with DMACC in August of 2021. His favorite part about working at DMACC
is all the people. Born in California, Marcus now resides in Carroll with his wife
and kids. An interesting fact about Marcus is his dad was a football player and mom
was a cheerleader! In his free time, Marcus enjoys playing video games, read horror
stories, huge sci-fi nut, and traveling anywhere and everywhere.
Instructor, Electrical Trades
Eric joined DMACC as the Electrical Trades Instructor at the Templeton Center. Before
DMACC, Eric graduated from NCC with a degree in applied science in 2004. After that,
he went on to work in the electrical filed from factory maintenance, commercial, industrial
and residential wiring in Northwest Iowa. In that time, he obtained his state electrical
license. Owning and operating his successful electrical business led him to new horizons.
Outside of work, Eric enjoys the outdoors, spending time with his two children and
is part of the local volunteer fire department.
Career Advantage Coordinator
Marc joined DMACC in August 2023 as an Academic Advisor. Before DMACC he began his
career in education teaching 4th grade at Adams Elementary in Carroll for 10 years,
and he was the Center Director and Education Coordinator for Buena Vista University
in Denison from 2003 - 2007. Most recently Marc was the UNI/DMACC 2+2 Program Coordinator.
Marc earned a Bachelor's degree in K-12 PE and Health from Buena Vista College, an
Elementary Education Endorsement from Wartburg College, and a Master’s degree in Elementary
Education Administration from Buena Vista University. In his free time, Marc enjoys
fishing, hunting, participating in sports, and spending time with his family. Marc
lives in Carroll with his wife, Kim and has two grown children, Peyton and Sydney.
Professor, Industrial Technician/Welding
Ryan started off at DMACC as a student. After graduating from the Industrial Maintenance
program, he became an adjunct Welding Instructor in January of 2014 and then became
a full time Welding Instructor in the fall of 2017. Ryan's favorite part about DMACC
is the culture. He grew up on the family farm and enjoys farming that same ground
today. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, farming,
and vacationing in western South Dakota.
Professor, Mathematics
Since 1999 Professor Tim Rial has been part of the Des Moines Area Community College
in Carroll, teaching a variety of math courses. His courses have included Calculus
I-III, Math for Elementary Educators Math I & II, Statistics, Finite Math, Math for
Liberal Arts, and Algebra. Professor Rial received his B.A. and Master's degrees from
the University of Northern Iowa, while taking only 3 years to complete his B.A. Tim
also has completed some coursework toward his doctorate at the University of Illinois,
where he was a teaching assistant and studied Theoretical Advanced Calculus and Logic
Theory. While at UNI, he was a 3-year letter winner as a wide receiver on the football
team, a two-time Gateway Conference All-Academic team normally only given to seniors,
and a teammate of National Football League quarterback and Super Bowl Champion, MVP,
and Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. Away from the classroom, Tim is a Financial Advisor
with designations of ChFC®, CLU®, and Top of the Table MDRT®, which is the top level
for the premier association of financial professionals. Tim has coached high school
and youth football, youth softball and baseball and is currently a varsity football
coach at Kuemper Catholic High School. Tim also enjoys time with his wife Lisa and
four children Madison, Amber, Trevor, and Logan.
Building & Grounds Maintenance
Gary joined the DMACC Carroll Campus custodial staff during the summer of 2009 to
oversee the building and grounds maintenance of the campus. Gary has an Associate
Degree in Electro Mechanical Technology. In addition to keeping the campus grounds
beautiful, Gary maintains all of the systems throughout the building to keep every
part of the building functioning and in good repair. After working a full day at DMACC,
Gary spends several hours coaching football and wrestling at the Kuemper Catholic
High School in Carroll. Gary also enjoys spending time with his four children, and
our new granddaughter. In his spare time, he enjoys going hunting and fishing when
time allows, jumping on his Victory motorcycle and riding. He's very involved with
the American Legion, American Legion Riders, and the Knights of Columbus.
Professor, Business Administration
Jen Schulte joined the Business Administration department in 2013. Jen possesses a
MBA from Bellevue University and BA from Iowa State University in Communication Studies
with minor in Entrepreneurial Studies. Before ISU, Jen attended DMACC, transferring
her AA degree upon completion. Her work experiences include retail and sales management,
human resources, defined contributions, local workforce development, and property
management with her husband. Her hobbies and interests include environmental science,
travel, biking, dirt road walks with her son and dog(s), watching documentaries, and
spending time with family and friends. Courses Jen teaches include Human Relations
in Management, Supervision, Introduction to Business, Personal Finance, and Introduction
to International Business.
Professor, Health Occupations
Amy is a graduate of the Carroll DMACC nursing program. She went on to obtain her
BSN and MSN from Mount Mercy University. She additionally has a master's degree in
health psychology and is in dissertation for her doctorate. Prior to joining DMACC
she taught at Kirkwood Community College in their nursing department. As a RN she
has worked in long-term care, acute care, dialysis, and emergency units. She is also
a chapter leader for the Central Iowa Holistic Nurses' Association. Personally, Amy
enjoys gardening and attending her children's sporting events.
Career Advantage Advisor
Maggie joined the Des Moines Area Community College as an academic advisor for the
Carroll Campus in August of 2020. Prior to her joining DMACC, she had various roles
at Buena Vista University from admissions to advising. Maggie has her Bachelor's Degree
in Business from AIB College of Business. Maggie and her husband have three kids that
keep them busy. While not at work, you can find Maggie cleaning, cooking and doing
laundry for her family; however, what she really enjoys doing is arts and crafts with
the kids, shopping and mother/daughter days.
Jeff Storjohann
Custodian
Jeff joined DMACC - Carroll Campus in mid-November 2022 and has lived in the Carroll
area since 1988. After working as a photojournalist for the past 30 years he welcomes
the opportunities offered at DMACC and especially likes working with the staff and
faculty. "DMACC has been a large part of our community for decades and through my
work as a photojournalist I saw the impact the college has on educating young adults.
Now, I have found that DMACC is also an exceptional place of employment." When not
at DMACC, Jeff can often be found photographing local sporting events, biking or traveling
with wife Sherry and their dog, Rylee.
Professor, English/History
Bethany joined the DMACC Carroll campus in Fall 2015. She earned her BA in Feminist,
Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Cornell University, her MA in U.S. History from
the University of California, Irvine, and her PhD in Literature from the University
of California, Santa Cruz. Her research interests include American countercultures,
apocalyptic narratives, queer and decolonial imaginaries in speculative fiction, popular
culture in the classroom, two-year college writing studies, and diversity, equity,
and inclusion in the community college. In addition to teaching a wide variety of
courses in the humanities, Bethany serves as the college's Study Abroad Coordinator.
When she's not at DMACC, she enjoys reading, writing, kayaking, lifting, playing video,
board, and tabletop games, and traveling. She lives in Perry with her wife, Crys,
her partner, Matt, and their two dogs and four cats.
Custodian
In September 2014, Tom Van Erdewyk, joined the Des Moines Area Community College in
Carroll as a member of the Custodial staff. In 1984, Tom graduated from the Carpentry
Program at Iowa Central Community College. Before coming to DMACC, Tom spent the previous
24 years working in the pressroom at the Daily Times Herald in Carroll, part of that
time as pressroom manager. In his spare time he likes to spend time with his wife
and children. He also enjoys golfing ,biking, remodeling his home in Carroll, doing
some woodworking projects and watching sports. He also likes to help out and spend
time with his extended family.
Library Assistant
Kathy joined the DMACC Carroll campus January 2021 as the Library Assistant. She enjoys
helping the students and faculty whether it is assisting with items to be checked
out or just answering questions. The last 32 years, Kathy worked at American Home
Shield doing office duties. Kathy and her husband Tom have two grown children, son-in
law and an adorable grandson. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her
family and friends, scrapbooking, reading and traveling.
Counselor
Kris Soyer has been with DMACC Carroll campus for over 10 years. She brings her degrees
in Business Education and School Counseling as well experiences from the K-12 arena
and career development to assist students in their educational journey. She enjoys
reading, outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends.
Executive Campus Dean
In August 2011, Jen joined the Des Moines Area Community College Carroll campus. Prior
to DMACC, she began her career in the K-12 realm with positions as an alternative
high school teacher, high school math teacher, high school counselor and track coach.
Jen earned her BA in Secondary Math Education from Wayne State College, an MA in Technology
Based Learning from Morningside College, and an MA in Secondary School Counseling
from Buena Vista University. Away from work, Jen enjoys spending time with her family
and friends, being outdoors, traveling, camping and photography.
Professor, Automotive Tech
Eric joined DMACC in the spring of 2016 as an Automotive Technology Instructor. Eric
is a graduate of Western Iowa Tech, is a Master ASE certified Technician with over
30 years of automotive and diesel experience. In his spare time, he enjoys spending
time with his family and friends, the outdoors, construction/woodworking and traveling.
Instructor, Computer Science
After teaching for 19 years at Pennsylvania College of Technology, Anita joined the
DMACC Carroll campus in 2022. Her previous teaching areas included programming, database,
cybersecurity, and video game programming. At DMACC she is active in the Career Advantage
program and various Computer Science courses. Anita has a Ph.D. (ABD) in Information
Systems with a concentration in computer security, a master’s in Instructional Technology,
and a bachelor’s in Computer and Information Science with a minor in Biology. Teaching
is her second career. She spent more than 20 years working at various computer companies.
Anita is originally from central Pennsylvania and now lives on the gulf coast of Florida
with her husband. When not teaching, she uses the creative side of her brain to create
pottery, and she is found fishing with her husband. Her life’s mission is to use her
talents to create resources that educate and inspire everyone to live their fullest
lives.
