About 2020 Bingo and Devised Theatre

As we have continued producing theatrical storytelling throughout the pandemic, we knew that at some point we would return to live, in-person theatre. We decided that ou first return to performances in our Black Box Theatre would be a devised play where we really got to hear from the students how this year has affected them. We also wanted our performances to feel exceptionally safe. And for this reason we have implemented the following safety measure, which will be strictly enforced:

• Max of 5 Audience Members to ensure extensive social distancing - Reservations Required!
• A shorter show - 45-Minutes or less
• Masks Required (The actors wear them too!)
• Temperature checks at the door
• Contactless Programs (this web page!)
• A Virtual Viewing option

Devised theatre can be challenging for actors who have never done it before. We are not simply writing sketches like Saturday Night Live. We have explored a large number of topics and ideas through monologues and scenes, as well as movement and technology. Our goal is to provide an incredibly unique, inherently theatrical experience. The entirety of the content of this play is original and was created by the students, faculty, and staff listed above.

All performances are FREE and take place in the Black Box Theatre in Building 5 at the following performance times:

Cast Bios

Kaylynn Bousman just recently appeared as the Stage Manager in the virtual production Romeo & Internet at DMACC. They have performed in many plays and musicals over the past six years through high school and middle school. Kaylynn would like to thank their former director Randy Peterson for his guidance and encouragement.

Faruk Garibovic has been cast in two productions in high school, Almost, Maine and 12 Angry Men. He has been in IHSSA as well as two short films. He is enrolled in his first DMACC production which he's excited about. He always holds true to his word. "No matter what you do in life, do it with love and stay hard."

Adam Horton is excited to be working on this devised theatre piece with so many talented individuals! Adam has been involved in several DMACC productions, such as Fuddy Meers, The Matchmaker, The Lifespan of a Fact, and Ghost Bike. Adam has also been involved with theatre and film around the Des Moines area, with shows like Eat Your Heart Out with Tallgrass Theatre Company, and Intervention and Brothers with Something Cool Productions, and on assorted commercial sets in the Des Moines Area as well. Adam would like to thank his friends, his family, and Megan for their unyielding love and support.

Jessica Katzung ​is excited to be participating in the play. This is her first play with DMACC. She hopes to act in more shows in the future.

JaKharri McKinney is very happy to be getting into the acting scene. This is his second play at DMACC after working on Romeo & Internet. JaKharri would also like to thank all his family, friends, and teachers who have stuck by him on this journey into his career.

Lo Stone (ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, STAGE MANAGER) is thrilled to be part of 2020 Bingo. This is her fourth production with DMACC after working on Circle Mirror Transformation (Marty), Romeo & Internet (Teach) and Willy Beau Dilly as an Assistant Director. She participated in numerous productions during her high school years and was an ensemble troupe member of Yours, Mime & Ours and The Rounding Shakespeare Company, all located in Denver, Colorado. She would like to thank her husband and best friend, Kenny, for his strength, humor and encouragement; and her seven beautiful children, TaPaJaCaRhyJuLil, who are her reason for breathing.

Creative Team Bios

Jodi Jinks (DIRECTOR) is returning to the director's chair at DMACC Ankeny Theatre and The Simon Estes School of Fine Arts after directing Circle Mirror Transformation. Other directing credits include The Diary of Anne Frank and The Magnificent Adventures of Edward Tulane at the Des Moines Playhouse, Gruesome Playground Injuries and A Doll’s House, Pt. 2 at Iowa Stage, as well as numerous college/university productions in the Midwest. Jodi’s professional history includes acting on Broadway in Blood Brothers, the National tour of Titanic, countless regional theatre productions, and her life-changing (and art-changing) experience as a Rude Mechanical Theatre Collective company member in Austin, TX. During her tenure as a Theatre professor Jodi dedicated her research to the creation of a devised theatre program called ArtsAloud, now partnered with DMACC, which currently offers programming at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women. In addition, Jodi teaches Theatre coursework at DMACC Ankeny, and Introduction to Theatre at ICIW, commonly known as Mitchellville prison.

Krister Strandskov (SOUND DESIGNER, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR) moved to Des Moines in 2013, and since then Krister has worked with Grand View University, Whippoorwill Theatre, Stage West, Goldfinch Theater Company, Iowa Stage Theater Company, and DMACC Ankeny Theatre in a variety of roles both on and off stage. Some of these productions include Our Country's Good (Foley Artist, Musician), 7/11 Theatre Project Back to Nature (Master Carpenter), Make Believe (Actor, Carpenter, Photographer), The Christians (Choral Ensemble), Ghost Bike (Carpenter, Photographer), Fuddy Meers (Technical Director), The Wolves (Technical Director), A Midnight Dreary (Scenic Design, Sound Design, Technical Direction), The Matchmaker (Technical Director) and is fresh off of productions of Circle Mirror Transformation, Guys and Dolls, Willy Beau Dilly, the DAT Staged Reading Series, and Romeo & Internet. Krister feels honored to have been part of the last several productions at DMACC and is looking forward to the rest of the 2020-2021 season.

Rachel Trimble (LIGHT & SET DESIGNER, PRODUCTION MANAGER) graduated from Grand View University where she was involved in every production during her time as a student. Some of her more memorable Grand View credits include Alexander Who's Not...Going to Move (Lighting Design), Clybourne Park (Lighting Design, Scenic Asst.), Miss Nelson Is Missing (Stage Management), Ghost Bike (Persephone, Ensemble), and 'night Mother (Scenic Design) for which she received a National Honorable Mention at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Rachel works here at DMACC Ankeny Theatre as the Resident Designer, and her credits include Fuddy Meers (Scenic, Properties Design), The Wolves (Scenic, Costume, & Properties Design), Love's Labor's Lost (Costume, Properties Design), A Midnight Dreary (Director, Lighting Design), The Matchmaker (Scenic, Lighting Design), and, most recently, Circle Mirror Transformation, Guys and Dolls, Willy Beau Dilly, the DAT Staged Reading Series, and Romeo & Internet.

Carl Lindberg (PRODUCER, PROGRAM CHAIR) ​is excited to be working on his seventeenth production at DMACC. Prior to his arrival in the Des Moines metro area, Carl worked as an actor on major Chicago stages (Lookingglass, Remy Bumppo, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, Oak Park Festival Theatre, About Face, Windy City Players, and many more), on camera in a handful of commercials and short films, and directed and designed productions in Chicago, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and California. Locally, Carl is represented by the Peak Agency, and he is incredibly proud to serve as an Adjudicator for IHSMTA, an All State Critic for IHSSA, to represent Pyramid Theatre Company as a board member, and to have performed at Tallgrass (Stop Kiss). Carl has an MFA in Directing from Western Illinois University, a BA in Acting from CSU Stanislaus, and has trained with ensemble members from Steppenwolf, The Second City, and Shakespeare & Co. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels.

Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for invitation to the KCACTF regional festival and may also be considered for national awards recognizing outstanding achievement in production, design, direction and performance.

Last year more than 1,500 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.
